Description

Lunk Tales is a puzzle-adventure-storytelling game where you control your game character (Lunk) by moving all objects at once. Explore rich story and save the princess Berta!

The game was created in 48h (when I could - parenting) for the GMTK 2021 game jam. The theme was “Joined Together“.

Everything is done by myself in Java (Scala actually) based on LibGDX framework. Sorry for big download size - I had to embed java runtime to let you play it without java installed.

After the game jam - game was ported to Scala.js + PixiJS so it is running in the browser (no need to download ~200MB) anymore. Content is the same as in the game jam but now it runs in the browser. :)

There are multiple endings based on interactions with objects. Right now there are not so much content, but I will be adding it in the future. I liked the concept of this game. Joining game jam was a great idea :D

How to play

  • Your goal is to save Princess Berta
  • Use WSAD to move objects around
  • You can join object with your character if they are near each other
  • Try to combine objects together to create new objects and solve the puzzles
  • Objects reacts to each other only when player is connected to them (items are levitating and there is a blue outline) 
  • It's possible that you stuck in some levels. Feel free to reset run.

Controls

  • WSAD - move objects
  • E - join/unjoin objects to/from player
  • R - reset current floor
  • ESCAPE - reset whole run
  • SPACE - ignore floor text on current floor

There's a softlock if you use two wood to go towards the castle and one wood to go to the heart.

Thank you for posting :) This game has a lot of potential for soft locking. Right now the only way to deal with it is to hard reset with "ESCAPE" button. About mentioned ones:
1. known one. It can be fixed by expanding world to be less linear.
2. first time see (orb room) :D good one :D
3. in all rooms with enemies, there should be a way to go back and bring what you need. Lesson learned :)

I have a few solutions for next version for now:
1. take it as a part of gameplay and make it less painful
2. track and eliminate all posibilities of soft locks
3. apply rollback mechanics (undo/redo)

Again thank you for catching these bugs :D

For number 3, you you bring just yourself, you can escape, but putting the sword behind you makes it impossible.

What happened to the sfx tho

There is no audio right now

But I do remember there being audio... sus

How do you escape the room with the orb? I've tried for a long time.

You can reset room by pressing "R" if you stuck (my bad - no in game controls instruction) :) Pull orb to you, grab and go out :)

Its so hard, there are too many dogs lmfao

The one with 5 dogs at the castle, if you don't have the spear, is impossible if you don't have your spear. You cannot even escape

Yeah, after releasing for game jam I've found that you need to have sword there. I was somehow able to escape it without sword but it was a bug I think.

the game is VERY good, but do everthing from the start ever time you reach an ending is lame
